Nová Zbrojovka Square will cover an area of 1 hectare, so it will be one of the larger examples. The whole space is divided into well-thought-out zones, so that there is a place for cultural and social events, but also for relaxation and walks. That’s why you’ll find little groves and mini forests, with little nooks and a marketplace. It sounds a bit like entering a fairy tale, but each part of the square has its own rational function.

As the names of each part suggest, the square will provide a lot of greenery. From smaller trees providing shade and seating, to mature plane trees evoking the atmosphere of a park. The square also includes an extensive water feature that will find its use mainly on hot summer days.
Since the initial design, a number of events have been planned. You can look forward to concerts, a summer cinema and theatre performances in its main part, exhibitions in the grove, with regular markets and gastronomic festivals in the marketplace and an ice rink. A special zone consists of little nooks – these will offer a relatively private rest areas for small groups, with the possibility of barbecues or picnics.
The dominant feature of the square will undoubtedly be the reconstructed Kotelna building. “In the initial ideas, the Kotelna played an analogous role in our thoughts as a church. It’s a significant feature of the whole territory, moreover, with a characteristic industrial touch. It was therefore clear that the central square had to be built here,” says Ing. arch. Ivona Uherková of the Kuba & Pilař architekti studio in Brno, who are in charge of the square’s realisation.
“The Kotelna used to distribute energy throughout the area and in future it will be no different – it will be the focal point of life in Nová Zbrojovka,” she adds. The Kotelna will become the main social centre of the entire complex, with a gallery, concert hall, art studios or recording studios. Lovers of good food will also enjoy it. In addition to a brewery pub, you’ll find many cafes and bistros in the Kotelna.
As with the whole Nová Zbrojovka project, we’re already trying to make the square as accessible to the public as possible. At the end of September, we therefore opened its zero phase – the area in front of the Kotelna – to the public. There are a number of events coming up next year and the whole space can also be rented.
