Connection called Nová Zbrojovka
We wished to leave a lasting legacy of the stage of the transformation of the Zbrojovka brownfield into a new urban district even when the current name Nová Zbrojovka will gradually be replaced by the final names of the streets and central places of the new district. This wish has been fulfilled - we are proud to announce that the new city street will bear the name Nová Zbrojovka. Almost a kilometre long, Nová Zbrojovka will run from north to south through the district and will provide a connection to the surrounding transport infrastructure from Zábrdovická Street to the large city ring road.
Three squares as a tribute to local personalities
Three squares in the new district will bear the names of important personalities associated with Židenice and Brno sport. Cyril Lacina Square commemorates the Moravian footballer, founder of SK Židenice and patron of local sport. Otmar Kučera Square will bear the name of a Czechoslovak RAF fighter pilot, hero of the Second World War and native of Juliánov. The Emilie Přesličková Square will honour a sportswoman and patriot of Židenice who made a significant contribution to the development of local sports.

Reference to Zbrojovka and the famous names associated with it
The new neighbourhood will bear the imprint of the famous history of Zbrojovka Brno in its street names. Odstrčilova Street commemorates Bořivoj Odstrčil, technical director and designer of aircraft engines and cars, while Stallerova Street refers to Karel Jan Staller, technical director and author of the iconic Zbrojovka logo. Bratří Holků Street pays tribute to the legendary family clan of gunsmiths who linked their professional lives with the Brno factory. The industrial tradition is also preserved by Kalírna Street, named after the place of heat treatment of metals in the armoury, and Na Berance Street, which refers to the original yarn factory of the Beran family, the predecessor of Zbrojovka itself. The name of the founder of the original spinning mill, Moritz Beran, also refers to the name of our first waterfront residence, Morizz. The name is a clever pun combining the name Moritz with the suffix ‘rizz’, which became a word in 2023 and is based on the word ‘charisma’.
Heroes and agents of change
The second group of streets commemorates exceptional personalities who shaped society and resisted oppression. Fukátkova Street bears the name of Jaroslav Fukátek, a national economist, educator and director of economic revision at the Brno headquarters of Zbrojovka Brno, who was a participant in the resistance. General Čeřovský Street commemorates Zbyněk Čeřovský, an army officer, dissident and signatory of Charter 77. The current street of Markéta Kuncová, a textile worker and colporteur of the communist press who died in prison during the Allied air raid on Dresden, is also dedicated to the resistance against Nazism. Their stories give the place a deep human dimension and value base.

Inspiration from culture, sport and progress
Other street names reflect the cultural and social dimension of the area. Růžena Žertová Street commemorates the architect and designer who worked for more than twenty years at the State Design Institute in Brno and became famous for her designs of department stores. Věra Růžičková Street honours the Olympic champion and sports legend of Brno. Landesmann Street, named after the writer Heinrich Landesmann, known under the pseudonym Hieronymus Lorm, creator of the Lorm alphabet for the deafblind, commemorates an exceptional form of communication for the deafblind.
The local identity is completed by the name Židenické nábřeží, which belongs to a two-hectare area on the left bank of the Svitava River. It will undergo a multi-purpose revitalisation in the coming years, which together with the implementation of flood protection measures will offer additional space for recreation and sport with a connection to the cycle path.
